Post Match Drinking
|
I'm flying over for the game this weekend and to be honest, it's been a while.
What pubs are still open around the ground for some post-match analysis and lubrication?
Used to drink in the Denmark or the Green Gates after matches, tried the Black Lion once but it smelt of sprouts and Sanatogen.

Apologies, you're right. The spurs match wasn't delayed. Not sure why I thought it was. Probably cos I was very, very drunk.

Best pub in the manor, by a fucking mile, is the Abbey Arms.
Us locals know.

Used to drink in the Prince of Wales and then the Green Man. On the rare occasions I do go now I tend to end up Black Lion. Also agree that the Little Driver is a decent alternative.

What was that wine bar called that was on Barking Road, just as you turned right onto it from Green Street? Maybe a bit further down that direction come to think of it.
Shithole, sticky floors. Remember drinking in there a few times. Turned up to it before Birmingham (h) one day and there were about 50 coppers blocking the doorway trying to stop our lot getting at them.

Charlene's was on Green St, set back on the market sqaure next to Queen's Pub, opposite Redclyffe Rd. Maybe you're mixing The Boleyn with the Queen's, as thre was often a rasta playing reggae riddims. There was a handy back door onto Rochester Ave round the back, Oi Oi Oi!

We were in the Green Man all day until the (delayed) kick off for the Lasagnegate match in 2006. I think it closed not long after that.
The Wakefield closed in late 2013.

I miss the Green man as well, that was our pre and post match guzzle HQ in days of yore.

If Charlene's was the little place almost opposite the Boleyn, then I used to love it in there.
Nice bit of SKA before matches always went down a treat.
Fucking nightmare getting served sometimes though as it was absolutely rammed.
